Overall purpose of the role
To be a key member of the the MSL London digital team and act as a trusted advisor and provide strategic direction and tactical advice on digital, online and social media centric public relations and communications programmes to our key consumer clients. To support the digital side of our P&G business, to support the Head of Digital in further developing a strong digital offering in the UK and to work as a key contact within the central Digital team.
Principal responsibilities
Client Facing
- Management and development of digital business across the company’s consumer clients
- To offer strategic digital advice for every new project from our portfolio of existing consumer clients
- Ensure every new client campaign and proposal has a strong, creative digital element
- Ability to sell in digital expertise and services in ‘laymen’s terms’
- Direct campaign activities and budgets, ensuring workload is apportioned by hours assigned by Director, tasks delegated by level and deadlines adhered to
- Act as the primary senior contact on the account and provide proactive, creative and strategic input which adds value to the client relationship
- Play an active role in the client ‘loop’ teams (i.e. advertising, marketing and PR) or within an MSL network team
- Manage and motivate account teams to be more proactive with digital, build relationships of mutual trust and respect within account teams and ensure all digital work is delivered to a high standard and on time
- Provide on-going digital and social media coaching and support for account team members, and champion account team successes and ensure client teams drive digital thinking
- Identify and resolve challenges and when necessary make senior management fully aware of any client/ budget/ team issues
- Contribute to relevant core services groups (i.e. Planning, Creative and Digital groups)
New Business Development
- Help identify and develop opportunities for digital new business or organically growing existing business by identifying opportunities for digital services within existing client work
- Play an active part in new business brain storms and new business pitches to ensure a strong digital element is included in every new business pitch and proposal
- Encourage account team members to recognise opportunities for new business via digital channels
Organisation and Administration
- Prepare detailed programme budgets, develop cost estimates for work and track fees and expenses to ensure that digital programmes are delivered on time and on budget
Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours Required
- Minimum 4 years’ experience
- Experience working for a digital marketing agency is ideal but not a pre-requisite
- Understands how best to exploit digital channels (social media, online media and blogger relations) in planning and conducting PR campaigns for clients
- Must demonstrate deep understanding and knowledge of key digital and social media platforms and the extent in which they can be best utilised for client campaigns
- Excellent track record of effectively managing digital campaigns across multiple countries
- Excellent track record of effectively managing and retaining client relationships and selling in digital services
- Sees the bigger picture, thinks ahead and is able to identify and leverage emerging trends and tools within the digital space
- Some experience using media monitoring tools including ability to analyse and act upon data generated by these tools
- Manages upwards as well as downwards, effectively manages expectations
- Leads by example, has proven ability to gain credibility and respect within account teams and is able to achieve results through others
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, communicates confidently with both clients and senior management
- Excellent presentation skills and competent in new business and pitch preparation
- Competent financial management and budgeting skills
- Excellent planning, organisation and prioritisation skills
